Sean Corfield has released a new extremely lightweight MVC framework “FW/1″ or “Framework One”.
There are several excellent ColdFusion frameworks currently available which provide varying degrees of rich capabilities, however the cost of these frameworks are somewhat complex codebases and, for many, a significant learning curve.
FW/1 is a response to this complexity and consists of only one file. FW/1 has only just been released so some things may change, but the intent is clear – to provide a trivially simple framework with an extremely low barrier to entry. As Sean describes on the projects home page, “FW/1 lets you build your application without worrying about a framework getting in your way.”
ColdFusion provides an enormous amount of flexibility in how applications are structured, however, the consequence of this is that every different organisation is developing applications differently. When new developers get involved there is a new structure to learn that has not been seen before. Frameworks provide great help in this area, but when they are perceived as complex then many developers will simply choose to develop their own home-grown framework that they can understand and debug.
Perhaps a framework like FW/1 will appeal to developers wanting to use a framework but have concerns about the complexities and learning time required for the FW/1′s big brothers.

Reminds me of Fusebox 3 but with conventions, only 1 core front controller template.

That’s a good observation. I expect these early versions of Fusebox were popular in part due to their simplicity.

its nice if cfwheels be included on the framework list…
